Basketball: Lakeview teams sweep past Towns, both sit atop Region 8-A

GAINESVILLE — Both Lakeview Academy teams came away with big Region 8-A victories over Towns County Friday night at the Lakeview gym.

The Lakeview boys rallied from an early first quarter deficit to snag a 72-55 win while the Lady Lions rolled to a 58-38 win over the Lady Indians.

In the boys game, Lakeview (13-6, 10-0 Region 8-A) trailed 19-10 after the first quarter but rallied to tie the game at 30 by halftime. The Lions used a big third quarter to grab the lead and then pulled away in the fourth quarter.

Blake McIntyre paced Lakeview with 19 points. Drew Cottrell added 16 points and Holden Cooper 10 points for the Lions, who remained unbeaten atop the region standings and have a 2 1/2-game lead over second place Prince Avenue. They lead Riverside Military by three games. 

For the girls, Maddy Towles poured in 14 points to go with 7 assists and 4 steals to lead the Lady Lions (12-7, 8-1). The win, coupled with a Prince Avenue loss, moved Lakeview into a first place tie with the Lady Wolverines.

Tori Taylor with added 13 points and 7 rebounds and Savannah Kinsey had 10 points and 8 rebounds for Lakeview.

Lakeview Academy next will travel to Athens to take on Athens Christian. Tip for the girls game is set for 3 p.m. with the boys to follow. The games will be played at Athens Academy because Athens Christians gym is under renovation.
