Deceased driver discovered following wreck in Barrow County

The driver of a small SUV died Friday morning when the vehicle overturned on King Avenue in Barrow County, authorities said.

First responders arrived on the scene about six minutes after the roughly 8 a.m. call, according to media release from the Georgia State Patrol (GSP).

Authorities determined that the northbound 2012 Ford Escape left its lane while entering a curve. The accident happened near Star Street.

"The Ford traveled off the east shoulder of the roadway, traveled down an embankment where it overturned onto its right side, and the windshield struck a large standing tree," officials stated in the release.

The victim was identified as Gordon Conway Plunkett, age 72. Authorities said Plunkett lived on King Avenue. No other persons or vehicles were involved in the accident, according to information from GSP.

Troopers didn't immediately know when the crash occurred.
