City of Cumming Utilities officials said grease and flushable wipes caused an estimated 1,000 gallon sewer spill late last week.
According to a Wednesday media release from the city, the Friday incident happened on Ga. 20/Canton Highway near Pine Lake Drive. The area is near a tributary to the Kelly Mill Branch.
Crews cleared the partial line blockage and applied lime to the affected area.
"The Georgia Department of Natural Resources now requires all publicly owned treatment works to report every sewer spill to local print, radio and television media outlets as soon as possible following the spill," City of Cumming Public Information Assistant Crystal Ledford stated in an email.
