JEFFERSON — Jefferson showed it can roll up plenty of rushing yards even without standout back Colby Wood on Friday.

With the senior missing through injury, the Dragons got strong performances from Donsha Gaither and Colby Clark, as they stormed to a 49-0 defeat of Madison County in Jefferson.

Gaither rushed 12 times for 128 yards and a score, while Clark added 80 yards and two scores on 14 carries as Jefferson opened its Region 8-AAAA campaign in style.

Justin Cole also had a 14-yard touchdown run to open the scoring for the third-ranked Dragons (5-1, 1-0 Region 8-AAAA), who also got a 41-yard punt return for a score from Zac Corbin in the second quarter.

Terrell Wall added an interception return for a touchdown, and quarterback Bryce Moore hooked up with Sammy Elegreet for a touchdown pass.

Jefferson has a bye next week before playing host to North Oconee on Oct. 13.
