Softball: Morgan powers Stephens to win in season finale

ATLANTA — Natalie Morgan had two home runs and six RBI to lead Stephens County to an 11-2 win over St. Pius Wednesday to close out the regular season.

Morgan drove in runs on a home run in the first, a single in the third, and another home run in the sixth.

The Lady Indians (15-5, 7-3 Region 8-AAAA) jumped on St. Pius quickly with four runs in the first inning. They pushed it to 5-0 in the third and then blew the game open with four more in the sixth.

St. Pius trimmed it 9-2 but Stephens County added two ore in the seventh.

Emma Whitfield was the winning pitcher for Stephens County scattering three hits and striking out 12 in six innings. Mackenzie Rogers threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.

Zoe Demetry took the loss for St. Pius surrendering 11 runs on 15 hits in seven innings.

Stephens County pounded out 15 hits. Jasmine Lowery, Whitfield, Morgan, Bailey Dobbs, and KayleySellers each racked up multiple hits for the Lady Indians.

Stephens County finished as the No. 2 seed in 8-AAAA for the upcoming region tournament that is slated to begin on Tuesday.
