Lady Bears beat Brenau, 3-0

By AccessWDUN

GAINESVILLE — The Truett McConnell women's soccer team took on the Golden Tigers of Brenau University Saturday and came away with a 3-0 victory.

This would be the third conference contest for TMU and they were looking to continue on what has been an impressive start to their conference campaign.

The Lady Bears seemed to be in control of the match from the kick off. During the half TMU attempted eleven shots, but none of them proved to be too much for the Golden Tigers' GK and defense. TMU's defense proved to be stout in only allowing two shots, but none of these would be too challenging for the Lady Bears, and the first half would conclude without either team securing a goal.

The Lady Bears would turn up the pressure in the second half and dominate possession. In the fifty-eighth minute the first goal of the match would be scored by Megan McCall off an assist from Lauren Huston. The Lady Bears did not back off due to their lead and just two minutes later Jennifer McCall scored the second goal for TMU. The Lady Bears continued with their relentless attack firing shot after shot, and in the seventy-seventh minute Katey Griggs scored the third goal of the match. The match would end 3-0, giving the Lady Bears their third victory and clean-sheet in as mean conference games.

Again, Coach David McDowell was pleased with the effort by his team tonight, especially in the second half. "We played against an organized team tonight with Brenau, but the girls showed a lot of patience in continuing to create opportunities and not force the ball. We scored three very good goals tonight and played a lot of unselfish soccer." The Lady Bears' next match will be on Wednesday September 27th at 4pm at Tennessee Wesleyan University, whose squad was recently ranked #25 in the country.
