Volleyball roundup: Branch splits, North Hall, East Hall take sweeps

JEFFERSON — Flowery Branch traveled to Jackson County Thursday for a tri-match, which also included Area 8-AAAAA rival, Clarke Central, and got a split.

The Lady Falcons opened up with a win over the Lady Gladiators 2-0 (25-22, 25-21) in Area action behind the play of senior middle blocker Anna Marshall, who had 13 kills, 1 ace, and 1 assist. Junior setter Oriah Ware contributed with 21 assists.

Flowery Branch then fell to host Jackson County 1-2 (22-25, 27-25, 25-19).

Standouts for the Lady Falcons (15-5, 2-1) were senior libero Ellie Luciani, who had 34 digs. Junior outside hitter Ashley Scott had 4 kills and 17 digs, and junior outside hitter Phoebe Hammond added 6 kills, 3 aces, 1 assist, and 1 block assist for Flowery Branch.

The Lady Falcons next will travel to Buford on Monday to take on the Wolves and Walnut Grove in a pair of key Area matches.

NORTH HALL SWEEPS

North Hall played swept host Hebron Christian and Jefferson Thursday in non-area matches.

The Lady Trojans knocked off Hebron 25-19, 25-20 and then beat Jefferson 25-14, 25-23 in finish the sweep in the tri-match.

Melissa DeVerter had 13 blocks, 21 kills, and 3 digs, Lily Paschall added 48 assists, 4 aces, and 1 kill, and Autumn Tucker posted 12 kills, 10 digs, and 1 ace for North Hall. Lena Strickland had 15 digs, Caroline Brady had a 6 point service run, 3 kills, and 2 blocks, and Madison Brock had 6 kills and 5 digs for the Lady Trojans.

North Hall next will travel to Lexington, Kent., on Friday to take part in the Kentucky Challenge.

EAST HALL SWEEPS

East Hall took its season record to 22-12 (4-0 Area 7-AAA) with a sweep of Madison County and Prince Avenue Christian.

The Lady Vikings held off Madison County 25-11, 17-25, 25-17 in three sets and whipped Prince Avenue Christian 25-17, 25-8 to complete the sweep.

Holly Poole had 21 points scored on serve with 7 aces, 28 digs and 6 kills to lead East Hall. Niyah Rucker had 6 points scored on serve with 2 aces, 7 digs, 4 blocks and 21 kills, Savannah Thellman added 16 points scored on serve with 6 aces, 1 kill, 16 digs and 33 assists, Summer Lindsey had 6 points scored on serve with 2 aces, 1 assist and 31 digs, and Tessa Rider scored 6 points on serve with 1 ace, 20 digs, 1  block and 12 kills for the Lady Vikings.

Janelly Lara scored 14 points scored on serve with 4 aces and 15 digs, Macy Thomas had 5 kills and 2 blocks, and Rachel McGee had 1 kill and 2 digs on the night for East Hall.

The Lady Vikings play next will play host to North Hall and Greater Atlanta Christian on Tuesday in a pair of crucial Area 7-AAA matches.
