(UPDATE:) Softball: Stephens County gets huge extra-inning win; Branch rallies for walk-off win in 8-AAAAA

TOCCOA — Stephens County moved into second place and within one-half game of first place in Region 8-AAAA with a 2-1, 8-inning win over Madison County Tuesday.

Freshmen Jasmine Lowery stroked a one-out single driving in the winning run.

The pitching was strong on both sides. Emma Whitfield struck out 11 in a complete game victory for Stephens County (12-4, 5-2 Region 8-AAAA). 

The Lady Indians captured the lead in the first inning on a two-out RBI single from Alanna Dunson. Madison County (14-5, 5-3) tied the game in the fourth and it stayed that way until the eighth inning.

Stephens County had eight hits with Dunson going 3-for-4 at the plate. Mackenzie Rogers had two hits for the Lady Indians.

Kara Kight's single off Caitlyn Canady in the bottom of the seventh pushed the Lady Falcons past the Lady Red Devils in Region 8-AAAAA action Tuesday night at home.

Flowery Branch (10-10, 3-1 Region 8-AAAAA) earned the victory despite a six-run second inning by Loganville (13-5, 1-2) which was fueled by a Branch error, a single by Canady, and a home run by Grayson Cruce.

The win also kept Flowery Branch within one-half game of first -place Buford in the region standings.

The Lady Falcons took a 1-0 lead in the first before falling behind after the Lady Red Devils' big inning. Flowery Branch began to chip away with three runs in the fifth inning. Flowery Branch Falcon's big inning was driven by a walk, a single by Kristina Schwab, and a single by Isabella Quinn.

Kara Kight earned the win for the Lady Falcons going the distance allowing eight runs on 11 hits and striking out five. Canady took the loss for Loganville yielding six runs on 11 hits in 2 2/3 innings in relief.

Flowery Branch pounded out 19 hits in the game. Alexis Nixon, Kight, Quinn, Schwab, Courtney Harris, and Callie Alexzulian each collected multiple hits for the Lady Falcons. Aubrey Bourrie, Alyssa Kimbrell, Nixon, Quinn, Alexzulian, Harris, Kight, and Schwab all drove in one run.

Flowery Branch is back in action Wednesday travling to Lumpkin County.
