Forsyth Co.: Additional lanes on Ga. 400 to open Monday

By AccessWDUN staff

The final section on State Route 400 northbound widening project will open to traffic Monday.

Opening the final three and a half mile section between Bald Ridge Marina Road and Keith Bridge Road (SR 306) will complete the northbound side where work began in June of 2015.

“We were able to open this project up to traffic in sections which was a great way to help ease congestion."  Said Brent Cook, P.E. District Engineer in the Gainesville office.

The last leg at the northern point of SR 400 NB was opened to traffic from Keith Bridge Road (SR 306) to Browns Bridge Road (SR 369) back in the summer.

Cook added, "This project it is not a typical design bid build project,  it's an innovative design build concept, and it allows the contractor to design the project while construction is ongoing,”

Drivers will be able to get over into the new lane for the entire 14 miles on SR 400 NB for the Monday morning commute.

“The widening of State Route 400 is such an important infrastructure project for Forsyth County, and we have our residents to thank for making it happen through their approval in 2014 of the Forsyth County Transportation Bond,” said Forsyth County Commission Chairman Todd Levent. “This widening will undoubtedly improve traffic on State Route 400 and the opening of the new northbound lane in its entirety is an important milestone in this project.”

Georiga DOT does wants to remind the traveling public of the following:

The new lane of State Route 400 Northbound, approaching SR 369 becomes a left turn lane.

Minor concrete and striping work  will continue at night and may require lane closures on the new lane Monday night between 9:00 p.m. and noon Tuesday.

Widening efforts on the southbound side of SR 400 began in May and the first four-mile section is expected to be opened by January 1, 2018.
