TOCCOA - A man walking on the railroad in Toccoa was struck and killed by a train Saturday.

"At 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Toccoa Police Department was notified by railroad personnel that someone  had been hit by a train near the Big A Road bridge," Toccoa Police Chief Tim Jarrell said Sunday. "When officers arrived, they found a white male deceased."

Jarrell said his officers and the Stephens County Coroner's Office responded and investigated.

"We were able to locate personal items in his possession to aid in identifying him," Jarrell said. "After notifying family, he has been positively identified as Charlie Joe Wilson, 45, of Inman, S.C. From our investigation, we have determined Wilson had been walking on the railroad tracks when he stepped in front of the train."

Jarrell said Wilson had been traveling from Atlanta to Inman, S.C., and was passing through Toccoa when the incident occurred.

"We do not believe any foul play is involved, Jarrell said.
