UPDATE: Softball roundup: Buford, East Hall, Stephens, Chestatee all take region wins

BUFORD — In a rematch of last year's Class AAAAA state title game, Buford blanked Walnut Grove 6-0 at home Thursday in a key Region 8-AAAAA showdown.

The Lady Wolves (12-2, 1-0 Region 8-AAAAA) broke a scoreless tie with two runs in the second and added a run in the third for a 3-0 lead. In the sixth inning, junior Katie Perkins sealed the game with a bases-loaded triple into the right field corner for the final score.

Sophomore Ansleigh Hollifield (4-0) earned the win going five innings. Senior Logan Caymol pitched the final two innings in relief to preserve the win. The pair limited Walnut Grove (6-7, 1-1) to just six hits while striking out 10.

Senior Gabby Benson had two hits, including a triple, with one RBI and scored two runs. Sophomore Anabel Adams also had two hits for Buford.

The Lady Wolves next will travel to Loganville on Monday in another key 8-AAAAA matchup

EAST HALL 11
FANNIN COUNTY 0

Steffanie Redmon tossed a complete-game, one-hit shutout to lead East Hall to a five-inning, 11-0 road victory Thursday in Region 7-AAA action .

The Lady Vikings (11-5, 8-0 Region 7-AAA) scored twice n the first inning and scored three runs each in the third, fourth and fifth innings to invoke the 10-run Mercy Rule.

Redmon, who also fanned seven while in the circle, helped her own cause at the plate with a home run in the fifth. Abigail Brown and Kaitlyn Daniel each had RBI singles for East Hall, who had nine hits as a team.

Amelia Sneed took the loss for Fannin County (7-8, 0-7) lasting just two-plus innings allowing six runs on four hits.

East Hall next will play in the Veteran's Memorial Tournament in Watkinsville on Saturday. The Lady Vikings will take on host Oconee County and Monroe Area.

STEPHENS COUNTY 1
JEFFERSON 0

Stephens County snapped Jefferson's five-game winning streak and pulled into a tie atop Region 8-AAAA with a dramatic 10-inning win Thursday in Toccoa

The two teams were tied 0-0 heading into the bottom of the 10th when Mackenzie Rogers had a bunt single off of Emily Perrin, driving in the winning run.

Emma Whitfield went the entire way for Stephens County (10-1, 3-1 Region 8-AAAA) fanning 13.

Kayley Sellers, Ashton Ayers, Rogers, Jasmine Lowery, Bailey Dobbs, Whitfield, and Natalie Morgan all had one hit for the Lady Indians.

Sam Vinson had two hits to pace Jefferson (6-5, 3-1).

Both teams next will take part in the Veteran's Memorial Tournament at Oconee County on Friday and Saturday.

CHESTATEE 4
BLESSED TRINITY 2

The Lady War Eagles (8-6, 3-1 Region 7-AAAA) stayed within a game of first place Marist after a big region win.

Elizabeth Eddins tossed a seven-hit complete game to give them a sweep of the season series and their fourth win in the last five games overall.

Danielle Ortega had two hits and an RBI and Bailey Mason had one hit and an RBI for Chestatee, which took advantage of several crucial Blessed Trinity errors to score a pair of unearned runs.

Hannah Jones had three hits for Chestatee, which next will play host to West Hall on Tuesday.
