Volleyball: East Hall sweeps 7-AAA tri-match; Branch sweeps Prince Avenue

ATHENS — The Flowery Branch girls volleyball team continued its strong play traveling to Prince Avenue Christian and coming away with a 3-0 sweep of the Lady Wolverines.

The Lady Falcons (11-2) took 25-19, 25-16, 25-19 wins behind senior middle blocker Anna Marshall, who had 9 kills, 2 aces, and 1 solo block. Junior outside hitter Ashley Scott had 5 kills, 5 aces, and 9 digs, and senior libero Ellie Luciani added 16 digs and 1 assist.

The Lady Falcons next will play host to King's Ridge on Thursday.


EAST HALL SWEEPS IN 7-AAA 

East Hall ran its record to 16-9 overall and opened Area 7-AAA play with a pair of wins Tuesday at home.

The Lady Vikings rallied from a set down to beat Fannin County 24-26, 25-20, 25-14 and then swept Dawson County 25-23, 25-10 in the second match.

Niyah Rucker had 12 points on serve with 6 aces, 30 kills, 9 digs and 7 blocks to pace East Hall. Tessa Rider added 16 points on serve with 10 aces, 20 digs, 1 assist, 1 block and 10 kills and Savannah Thellman had 7 points on serve with 4 aces, 5 kills, 15 digs and 43 assists for the Lady Vikings.

Holly Poole had 12 points on serve with 4 aces, 1 assist, 15 digs and 9 kills, Summer Lindsey posted 11 points on serve with 3 aces, 2 assists and 42 digs, Janelly Lara added 18 points on serve with 3 aces, 3 assists and 23 digs, and Macy Thomas had 5 kills and 1 block for East Hall.

East Hall next will play host to White County and Walnut Grove on Thursday.


NORTH HALL OPENS 7-AAA SLATE WITH WIN

The Lady Trojans swept past Union County in their first contest of the 7-AAA slate and also swept Jefferson in non-area play on Tuesday.

North Hall dominated the Lady Panthers, 25-6, 25-5, and then pushed past the Lady Dragons 25-12, 25-23.

Lily Paschall had 30 assists, 7 aces, 3 kills and 11 digs for the Lady Trojans, while Autumn Tucker had 15 kills, 4 aces and 4 digs. Melissa DeVerter also had 14 kills, 3 blocks, 4 aces and 7 digs, and Holly Worden had 7 aces, 10 point service run, 3 digs. Caroline Brady had 6 aces, 2 kills, 10 digs; Lena Strickland had 21 digs, 3 aces; Savannah Miller had 4 kills; and Maci Gillespie had 9 digs.

North Hall plays in the Athens Academy invitational on Saturday.


GAINESVILLE SWEEPS 8-AAAAAA CONTESTS

The Lady Red Elephants edged Apalachee 25-17, 17-25, 25-17 and then swept past Winder-Barrow 25-16, 26-24 on Tuesday in a pair of 8-AAAAAA matches.

Camille Holcomb put up 5 aces and 7 digs to help lead Gainesville, while Kenley Jordan had 5 aces, 12 kills and 16 digs. Isabella Appling added 6 aces and 19 digs; Ashley Filson had 4 digs; Anna Wylie had 3 kills, 1 block and 3 digs; Ansley Turner had 3 aces, 4 kills, 30 assists and 4 digs; Camille Calkins had 2 aces, 1 kill and 2 blocks; Savannah Roys had 2 aces, 18 kills, 14 assists and 11 digs; and Abby Alexander had 12 kills and 2 blocks.
