Softball roundup: Stephens County, Chestatee take region wins; Buford storms back

WATKINSVILLE — Emma Whitfield tossed a two-hitter to lead Stephens County to an 8-0 victory over North Oconee Tuesday in Region 8-AAAA action.

Whitfield fanned nine and got a seven-run thid inning from the offense in support. 

In the third, the Lady Indians (9-1, 2-1 Region 8-AAAA) scored on a triple by Natalie Morgan, a double by Bailey Dobbs, a error, a single by Kaylee Sellers, a single by Jasmine Lowery, and a double by Mackenzie Rogers.

Stephens County collected eight hits with Ashton Ayers and Dobbs having mutli-hit games.

BLESSED TRINITY 1

Elizabeth Eddins scattered four hits and walked none in leading the Lady War Eagles (7-6, 2-1 Region 7-AAAA) to a key region win.

Eddins also added two hits and two RBI at the while Bailey Mason also had two hits and two RBI for Chestatee. Cheyenne Roper and each had two hits for the Lady War Eagles.


BUFORD 12,
WESLEYAN 4

The Lady Wolves (11-2) came from behind to run-rule Wesleyan on Tuesday at Buford. 

Trailing 4-1 going into the bottom of the fifth inning, the Buford offense explodes for 11 runs. Hannah Jo Hyatt went 2 for 2 in the inning, driving in four runs, including a two-run double that ended the game. Shortstop Kelsey Bennett continued to swing a hot bat, with three hits, including a solo home run and a two-run single in the decisive fifth.  

Logan Caymol picked up the win in relief of fellow senior pitcher Ansley Byers, who started the game and pitched the first 4 innings. 

Buford plays host to Walnut Grove on Thursday.
