Commissioners, fire services leaders to meet with Gillsville residents over planned ambulance loss

By B.J. Williams

Officials with Hall County Fire Services and the Hall County Commission plan to be in Gillsville Tuesday night to field questions about a change in service delivery strategy that will remove ambulance service from three rural fire stations.

Hall County Fire Chief Jeff Hood confirmed he will attend the 7 p.m. meeting at Gillsville City Park. Commissioner Scott Gibbs, who represents the Gillsville area on the county commission, also confirmed he will attend the public meeting. Gibbs said via telephone Monday morning he expects Commission Chairman Richard Higgins and Assistant Fire Chief Mark Arnold to attend, as well.

Last week, Hood publicly announced a change in service delivery strategy for Hall County Fire Services, saying that ambulances would be removed from more rural fire stations in the north of the county and that paramedics would be reassigned to busier stations in the South Hall area.

The announcement has been met with concern by residents of the area where the ambulances will be removed from service.

The new plan is expected to be fully implemented by October 2, according to Hood.

The Tuesday night meeting is open to the public. Gillsville City Park is located at 7864 County Line Road in Gillsville.
