Volleyball: East Hall splits; Branch wins; Gainesville sweeps

The East Hall volleyball team took out Stephens County but fell to West Hall on Thursday night in Oakwood.

The Lady Vikings beat Stephens 25-11, 25-11, only to watch the Lady Spartans take a 25-16, 25-17 victory.

Niyah Rucker paced East Hall with 13 kills, 2 digs and 1 block, while Savannah Thellman had 8 points scored on serve with 4 aces, 4 kills, 7 digs and 23 assists. Holly Poole also had 6 points scored on serve with 3 aces, 1 assist, 4 digs and 4 kills, and Summer Lindsey had 7 points scored on serve with 1 assist and 30 digs. Tessa Rider scored 4 points on serve with 14 digs, 1 assist and 8 kills; Janelly Lara scored 11 points on serve with 3 aces, 3 assists and 7 digs; Macy Thomas had 2 kills, 1 block and 2 digs; and Sarah Salyers scored 11 points on serve with 2 aces and 4 digs.

The Lady Vikings play on Tuesday against Fannin County and Dawson County in Valhalla, beginning at 5 p.m.


BRANCH TAKES OUT CHESTATEE

The Lady Falcons (10-2) defeated the War Eagles 3-0 (25-19, 25-13, 25-17) on Thursday behind the play of senior middle blocker Anna Marshall, who had 13 kills, 1 ace, 1 solo block, and 1 block assist, and sophomore middle blocker Sierra Lutz, who added 4 kills, 2 solo blocks, and 1 block assist.

Flowery Branch travels to Prince Avenue Christian on Tuesday. 


GAINESVILLE TAKES TRI-MATCH

The Lady Red Elephants defeated Oconee County 2-1 (25-13, 22-25, 25-11) and Clarke Central (25-5, 25-2) on Thursday night.

Savannah Roys helped pace Gainesville with 4 aces, 10 kills, 16 assists and 12 digs, while Abby Alexander had 5 kills and 4 blocks. Anna Wylie also had 8 kills and 5 digs, 2 blocks, and Kenley Jordan had 7 aces, 17 kills and 11 digs. Isabella Appling had 11 digs; Camille Calkins had 3 kills and 3 blocks; Camille Holcomb had 6 digs and 2 aces; and Ansley Turner had 11 aces, 4 kills, 15 assists and 6 digs. 

Gainesville travels to Habersham on Tuesday to play its first region matches against Apalachee and Winder-Barrow. 


JOHNSON DROPS TWO MATCHES

The Lady Knights (6-10) fell to Parkview 2-0 (25-22, 25-12) and North Oconee 2-0 (25-8, 25-9) on Thursday.

Grace Eidson had 12 kills, 7 assists and 10 digs to help lead Johnson, while Alivia Farley added 6 kills, 11 assists and 7 digs. Julia Bowers also had 11 digs, and Sarah Kudybah had 4 kills 

The Lady Knights play at the Providence Tournament on Sept. 9.
