No citizens showed up to a second public hearing Wednesday night for a public hearing on the Gainesville City Schools tentative millage rate.
Superintendent Dr. Jeremy Williams said one person did attend an earlier meeting that same day, but that person had more general concerns relating to promoting how the board uses their money. "It's very obvious to me we need to a better job of communicating that back to the parents and to the community as a whole," Williams said.
The rate was tentatively set at 6.85 mills in a 3-2 vote a week ago.
"Between the two meeting we had [Wednesday] we had very little participation, which I've been told is typical. So I hope that the next meeting we have, which is next Wednesday September the 6th at 6 o'clock, and hopefully we'll have millage adoption at 6:30 p.m."
The board decided to hold the meeting for a few minutes, just in case anyone wishing to discuss the millage rate. However, no one showed during that time period.
Williams said before the meeting was adjourned that next year they were hoping to adopt the millage rate at the budget hearing.
The meeting, which began at 5 p.m., adjourned at 5:18 p.m.
The next meeting is September 6 at 6 p.m.
