Police: Buford kidnapping suspect turned himself in Monday

The man police believe attempted to kidnap a woman after following her home from a Buford Wal-Mart store is now in custody.

Jamez Maclin, 23, turned himself in on charges of kidnapping and battery Monday afternoon, and was booked into the Gwinnett County Jail at 2:52 p.m., according to Cpl. Matthew Williamson, GCPS spokesman.

Maclin allegedly followed the victim out of the Wal-Mart on Ga. 20 near I-985, then proceeded to follow her to her home in his white BMW car.

When she got home, police said Maclin got out of his car and grabbed her as she went toward her front door, at which point she screamed and fought him off.

Maclin fled the scene, and apparently went back to Wal-mart, where he abandoned his car and fled.

The following morning, Maclin reported his car stolen, a tactic police believe he used to try to cover his tracks. The victim was able to pick Maclin's picture out of a photo line up, identifying him as her attacker.

The attack happened shortly before midnight on Aug. 23.
