Softball roundup: Buford gets revenge; East Hall stays perfect in 7-AAA; Stephens, Chestatee open region play with wins

RABBITTOWN — East Hall ran its win streak to four and stayed perfect in Region 7-AAA with a 7-1 victory over Lumpkin County Thursday at East Hall Park.

The Lady Vikings (7-2, 4-0 Region 7-AAA) trailed 1-0 after the third inning when the Lady Indians (5-5, 3-2) got an RBI hit from Victoria Mounce, who went 2-for-3.

East Hall grabbed the lead with a pair of runs in the fifth inning with two-run single from Steffanie Redmon. The Lady Vikings blew the game open with a five-run sixth on two Lumpkin County errors and a RBI double by Redmon.

Macy Banks again earned the win for East Hall tossing seven innings allowing just the one run on seven hits while striking out nine.

Senior and reining Class AAAAA Player of the Year Arielle Oda opened the game with an inside-the-park home run and the Lady Wolves (10-2) never trailed in avenging a loss to the Lady Bulldogs on Tuesday. It was the final game of a home-and-home series between the top ranked teams in Classes AAAAA and AAAAAAA, respectively.

The Lady Wolves made it 2-0 in the first inning when senior Janelle Mathis stroked a two-out RBI double scoring courtesy-runner Kelly Paulson. Buford added two more runs in the second with Oda lacing a two-out single up the middle scoring Gabby Benson and Anabel Adams for a 4-0 lead.

North Gwinnett answered with two runs in the bottom of the second on three hits and a Buford error and another in the fifth on two more hits and a second Buford error.

But senior Kelsey Bennett added a crucial insurance run in the top of the seventh with a massive home run to right-center field for a 5-3 lead.

Sophomore Ansleigh Hollifield (3-0) got the win going five innings and allowing just one earned run on six hits for Buford. Senior Logan Caymol pitched the final two innings in relief fanning three and not allowing a single baserunner to get the save.

OCONEE COUNTY 1

Stephens County opened Region 8-AAAA with dominating win over the Lady Warriors in six innings Thursday on the road.

Alanna Dunson drove in six runs on three hits, including a pair of home runs, for the Lady Indians (9-0, 1-0 Region 8-AAA). 

The Lady Indians scored first inning to grab the lead and ten blew the game open with a five-run sixthcourtesy a single by Emma Whitfield and a home run by Dunson.

Stephens County collected 14 hits with Dunson, Natalie Morgan, Whitfield, Bailey Dobbs, Aly Singletary, and Jasmine Lowery all having multi-hit game

Whitfield earned the win for Stephens County going the distance.

CHESTATEE 8
WHITE COUNTY 2

Chestatee snapped a three-game losing streak and opened Region 7-AAAA play with a solid win Thursday at Talon Field.

The Lady War Eagles (5-5, 1-0 Region 7-AAAA) used a six-run fifth inning to blow open a close game. White County (5-3, 0-1) led 1-0 in the third but Chestatee answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning. It stayed that way until the fifth and the Lady Warriors, who had their four-game win streak snapped, scored a run in the seventh.
