Police: Man followed woman home from Buford Wal-Mart, attempted to kidnap her

Gwinnett Police are on the lookout for the man who allegedly followed a woman home from a Buford Wal-mart store and attempted to kidnap her.

Jamez Maclin, 23, is wanted on charges of kidnapping and battery, according to a news release issued Thursday afternoon by the Gwinnett Police Department.

He's said to be 6-feet tall, weighing 165 pounds.

The incident happened shortly before midnight Wednesday night at the Wal-Mart on Buford Drive, when the victim returned to her car after shopping at the store alone.

"When she walked out of the store, she noticed a white BMW parked behind her vehicle. As she drove home, she noticed that a car was behind her but did not realize that the vehicle was actually following her," said Cpl. Deon Washington, Gwinnett Police spokesman, in a statement.

The woman pulled the car into her driveway, at which point Maclin allegedly tried to grab her. The victim screamed, and as her mother came running to the door, Maclin let her go and fled.

Police later found the BMW back at Wal-Mart, and the victim was able to confirm that the listed owner of the vehicle was her attacker.

Maclin allegedly parked the car at the store, then fled on foot before calling police Thursday morning, claiming the car was stolen.

"It is believed that he reported the car stolen to cover up the fact that he used the vehicle during a kidnapping attempt," said Washington.

Police said it's a good idea to park in well-lit areas at night, and they advised women not to shop alone late at night.

"If you have suspicions that you are being followed, do not ignore them, drive to the nearest police precinct or heavily populated area and call 911," said Washington.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police.
