ATLANTA — Atlanta United returns to action Wednesday night against Eastern Conference opponent D.C. United for the third and final regular-season match between the clubs this season.

Atlanta enters the week in seventh place in the Eastern Conference and fourth in points per game through 22 matches. D.C. United is 11th in the East with 22 points from 25 matches.

Atlanta United drew Sporting Kansas City 1-1 in its last outing on August 6 at Children’s Mercy Park. Benny Feilhaber converted a penalty in the 59th minute to give SKC the lead, but ex-Sporting man Jacob Peterson scored in stoppage time to steal a point. It was Peterson’s first appearance since March 31 at Seattle Sounders.

D.C. United snapped an eight-game winless streak on August 19 at Colorado Rapids with a 1-0 victory. A Jared Watts own-goal in the 27th minute was the difference as neither offense produced a goal despite each side putting up double-digit shots. Watts attempted a back pass to goalkeeper Tim Howard, but the intended ball skipped just wide of Howard’s outstretched foot and rolled into Colorado’s net. It was D.C. United’s first win since beating Atlanta 2-1 on June 21.
