Lanier fights back in fourth quarter to pull out win

By AccessWDUN Staff

DULUTH — Lanier football coach Korey Mobbs knew his younger players may need some adjusment time this season.

The Longhorns showed plenty of it in just one game on Friday.

Lanier fought back from a 17-7 halftime deficit, scoring 20 fourth quarter points to pull off a 33-24 defeat of Northview on Friday in Duluth.

"We settled in, and the kids did a good job," Mobbs said. "For a lot of them it was their first real taste of high school football, so I'm very pleased with what I saw. We have a long way to go, but Northview was also a very good team. They're light years ahead of where they were last year."

Mobbs singled out quarterback Zach Calzada for praise, along with receivers Mekal Fuller and Cam Ferguson, along with a quartet of running backs in Tywon Reaves, Larry Harper, Keonte Polk and Taj Barnes, who each played on Friday.

The Longhorns (1-0) will play host to South Gwinnett next week.
