Good News Clinics celebrates 25 years, volunteers of the year

The Good News Clinics celebrated their 25th anniversary Thursday night with a fundraising banquet.

The non-profit took a look at the history of the organization and then recognized their volunteers of the year. Nurse Practitioner Eva Johnson was awarded the Sam Poole Volunteer of the Year Award and the Anne Warren Thomas Volunteer of the Year Award was given to Board of Directors member Kevin Price.

"I'm just very honored that they chose me, I really am," Johnson told AccessWDUN after she received her award. "This is my work for God and to be honored for that gives that honor back to God."

Johnson said it wasn't just her working to help people. "It's such an honor, but it's not just an award for me, it's for the whole team at Good News Clinics. Everybody works so hard to provide care for the patients in the community."

Price was also humbled by his award. "I'm getting the credit for what an enormous amount of other people have done. I've never treated a patient. I've simply invited other people to come work and raise money and help people answer the calling of their heart."

According to the non-profit, almost 10,500 people visited the Sam Poole medical clinic in 2016 and over 6,200 people visited the Green Warren dental clinic. At the GNC Dispensary, 39,476 prescriptions were filled in 2016. And, just under 4,900 patients visited the Health Access Initiative.

Good News Clinics offers health and dental care to those in Hall County who cannot afford it.
