Woodstock man charged with DUI after crash into Dahlonega restaurant

A Woodstock man has been charged with DUI drugs in connection with a nine-vehicle pile-up that ended with a work truck smashing into a restaurant in Dahlonega Monday afternoon.

Steve Russell Moss, 28, was allegedly driving the truck that hit eight other vehicles before it smashed into Moe's Southwest Grill on Morrison Moore Parkway during the lunch rush.  Authorities updated the number of vehicles involved on Tuesday.

"There were some people injured inside the restaurant, and there was also the gentleman that was operating the vehicle that ended up inside of Moe's that was injured, and then some of the other people in some of the passenger cars that were injured," Lumpkin County Sheriff's Lt. Alan Roach told the Georgia News Network.

Five people suffered serious injuries and were transported to area hospitals.  Moss was one of them, according to Roach.

In an approximately 11:00 a.m. Tuesday Facebook post, Sheriff Stacy Jarrard indicated Moss had been placed under arrest by the Georgia State Patrol.

Moss is additionally charged with reckless driving.

"Thank you to the local and state agencies for your efforts during this unfortunate accident," Jarrard commented on Facebook.  "Also, thank you to the many citizen volunteers that assisted in yesterday's accident."
