Authorities confirm wreck that killed Dawson County coach happened in Forsyth County

Forsyth County authorities Monday morning confirmed information that had been circulating throughout the region over the weekend, the traffic accident that claimed the life of a Dawson County High School coach happened on Georgia 400 Saturday morning.
 
Varsity soccer coach Gerard "Jed" Lacey, 58, of Dawsonville, was driving a 2012 Dodge Ram pickup involved in the four-vehicle southbound crash just north of Bald Ridge Marina Road Saturday morning, according to Forsyth County Sheriff's Deputy Doug Rainwater.
 
Lacey's pickup moved from the left into the right lane of 400 and hit the left rear side of a southbound 1987 Kenworth Dump Truck, driven by Reginald Davis, 52, of Atlanta, according to a news release from Rainwater.
 
"The Dodge Ram begin to spin sideways and was struck by a 2007 Mack Dump Truck which was southbound in the left lane," the release stated.  "The Mack was being operated by Tony Thomason, 42 year-old male from Lavonia, Ga. A 2017 Subaru Outback which was traveling southbound was struck by a rear tire from the Mack and then the Subaru struck the Kenworth."
 
Rainwater identified the Subaru drive as Elizabeth Gallagher, 33, of Cumming.
 
Lacey was pronounced dead on the scene.  2 juvenile passengers in his pickup suffered injuries and were taken to the hospital following the roughly 6:00 a.m. wreck.  Rainwater said one of them remains hospitalized. Deputies did not release their names.
 
"The cause of the accident is still under investigation by the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Specialist Unit," Rainwater wrote in the release.
