Area scrimmages bring 2017 high school football a big step closer to reality

The high school football season takes a big step toward reality this week when most of the area's programs engage in preseason scrimmages -- the closest thing to a real game -- with just days remaining until the 2017 campaign kicks off in earnest on Aug. 18.

Four northeast Georgia teams -- Banks County, Habersham Central, East Hall and Towns County -- have already completed their preseason contests, but there are plenty more to go, most of them set for Friday night.
