ATHENS — The Georgia Bulldogs donned shoulder pads for the first time this pre-season camp and conducted a two-hour workout Wednesday in jerseys, shorts and helmets.

Following practice, selected offensive players commented on the day’s action including junior center Lamont Gaillard and senior wide receiver Javon Wims.

Gaillard was asked about his play and following in the footsteps of 2016 senior center and captain Brandon Kublanow.

“Brandon taught me a lot about the position and now I’m taking on the challenge,” said Gaillard who started all 13 games last year at right guard. “I’m confident, comfortable and working on getting my snaps perfect.”

Gaillard added that he has been pleased with the energy displayed by the new offensive linemen.

“All the freshmen are working hard and have a positive mindset,” he said.

Additionally, Georgia has a handful of newcomers at wide receiver, and Wims, has taken on more of a leadership role with that group.

“I feel good, last year was a learning experience but now as a senior, it’s my responsibility with the guys to catch them up to speed and teach them how to focus on the details,” said Wims. “The coaches said that should help me and help the team. I’m looking for consistency, that’s very important to me.”

Wims played in 12 games last year with three starts and tallied 17 receptions for 190 yards and one touchdown. He echoed Gaillard’s comments on the freshmen’s work ethic and all the receivers to date.

“We’re grinding every day and trying to win games, and to do that, we know we have to put the work in,” he said.
