28 people were arrested over the weekend while authorities took down a drug trafficking network that had been operating in Stephens, Habersham and surrounding counties, an agent said.
Special Agent in Charge Mitchell Posey of the Appalachian Regional Drug Enforcement Office said two women - Amber Null and Donna Beard, both of Toccoa - ran the operation.
"They were being supplied by Brandon Davidson and Jody Higgins," Posey said in an interview with AccessWDUN.
They allegedly dealt with distribution of one particular illegal drug.
"Mostly methamphetamines, occasionally there would be a little bit of marijuana and maybe some pills like oxycodone, but it was almost strictly primarily methamphetamine," Posey said.
Agents, as well as the Stephens County Sheriff's Office, Habersham County Sheriff's Office and Toccoa Police Department, raided 10 residences, confiscating more than a pound of meth., a number of firearms and $38,600 cash.
The execution of the search and arrest warrants were preceded by a traffic stop of the alleged suppliers, Davidson and Higgins, prior to their delivery of methamphetamine to Beard and Null, according to Posey.
The residences of all four were among those searched over the weekend. Davidson resides in Cornelia. The other 3 live at separate addresses in Toccoa.
Posey said the organization distributed several kilograms of methamphetamine in the region during the 8-month investigation.
"This investigation developed as a result of intelligence that was gathered after the previous arrests of Luke Norton, Tonya Loundermilk and Melenie Brock," Posey wrote in the release. "The investigation continues and additional arrests are expected."
Loundermilk and Brock were not among those named in the 30 weekend arrest warrants. Norton was on the list, but was one of two people who had not yet been located for arrest Monday afternoon.
In addition to the 2 sheriffs' offices and one police department, Posey said the Mountain Judicial Circuit District Attorney's Office was involved in the investigation.
"The hard work of these law enforcement officers and prosecutors has dismantled this destructive organization," Posey wrote.
