I-985 northbound to be shut down overnight Thursday at I-85 split

Both lanes of I-985 northbound will be closed Thursday night at the I-85 split as crews transport and install bridge beams for the new express lane extensions.

Starting at 9 p.m. a single lane will be closed, which will transition into a double-lane closure at 11 p.m, according to a news release from the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT).

Both lanes will remain closed until 5 a.m. Friday. The southbound lanes will not be affected.

While the lanes are closed, traffic trying to get on I-985 northbound will be rerouted to Exit 115 on I-85, and take Ga. 20 past the Mall of Georgia to get back to I-985.

The detour is approximately six miles, and drivers are asked to use caution when driving through construction zones.
