TOCCOA — The Georgia State Patrol has released details of the three-vehicle wreck that shut down traffic at Jeanette Jamieson Intersection near Toccoa for several hours Wednesday.
The wreck happened just before 10 a.m. when a 2008 Chevrolet Express van owned by T and T Transportation of Augusta and driven by James W. Forbus, 81, of Toccoa, turned left into the path of a 2018 Freightliner Cascadia tractor-trailer truck owned by JLE Industries LLC of Dunbar, Pa., and driven by Alexander Leslie Lane, 44, of Victoria, Texas, according to Georgia State Patrol Post 7 in Toccoa.
Forbus’ van was traveling south on Ga. 365 in the left turn-only lane for Ga. 184, according to GSP. The tractor-trailer was traveling north on Ga. 365 in the right lane. When the van crossed the truck’s path, the vehicles collided in the intersection of Ga. 365 and Ga. 184. The van spun and came to rest in the gore area of Ga. 365,
As a result of the impact, the van’s passenger side wheel assembly came off and struck a grey 2005 Toyota Camry driven by Casey Aaron Dover, 35, of Demorest, according to GSP. Dover already had begun to steer his vehicle to the right to attempt to avoid the collision.
Two witnesses to the collision said the tractor-trailer had the solid green light when the van turned left into its path.
Forbus suffered non-incapacitating injuries and was taken by ambulance to Northeast Georgia Medical Center. He was cited for failure to yield while turning left, according to GSP.
Lane and his passenger, 21-year-old Taylor Damon Lane of Gadsden, Ala., also suffered non-incapacitating injuries and were taken by ambulance to Northeast Georgia Medical Center, according to GSP.
Dover was not injured.
All occupants were wearing lap and shoulder belts at the time of the collision, according to GSP.
The wreck shut down the busy intersection for about three hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.
