February home invasion suspect arrested in Chicopee Village

Hall County deputies arrested a Flowery Branch man this week in connection with a home invasion earlier this year.

Sheriff's Lt. Scott Ware said Caleb Gary Mealor, 27, allegedly entered an East Ridge Road residence on February 26.  Ware said he pointed a gun at and threatened a male and female he was acquainted with.

"He actually beat the male victim with the gun causing a fractured forearm and multiple lacerations to his head.  That victim had to receive medical treatment and get staples in his head," Ware said.

Mealor allegedly made off with a car, computer, cell phone, wallet and credit card.  The car, a 2006 Volkswagen Passat, was valued at $5,500, according to Ware.

Mealor also had warrants for a February 24 credit card fraud case.  He allegedly used the victim's card to buy gas and food from a store in the county.  Ware said the home invasion and card fraud victims are not connected.

The break in the case came Monday when deputies with the warrants division made contact with Mealor at number 12, 4th Street in Chicopee Village, where authorities believe he'd been staying.  Ware said Mealor took off on foot.

"While he ran, he discarded quantities of methamphetamine and heroin on a sidewalk.  He continued to run and discarded a semi-automatic pistol in a wooded area," Ware said.

Mealor was arrested after a brief foot chase.  Ware said deputies found a glass smoking device in his pocket.

Authorities continue to investigate the case.
