A Buford man is dead and a Cumming man faces charges in connection with a Sunday morning traffic accident in Gwinnett County.
Lawrenceville Police Capt. Jeff Smith said the fatal crash happened just before 5:45 a.m. on SR 316 east of Highway 120.
Smith said Michael Robert Branigan, 21, has been charged with vehicular homicide and felony hit-and-run in the crash that killed Anthony Wayne McPherson, 26.
Smith said McPherson was a passenger in a vehicle that was being driven eastbound on SR 316 by Luis Medina Rivera. Smith said Branigan's vehicle struck Rivera's vehicle from behind, causing Rivera to lose control of the car. The car rolled and traveled into a wooded area off the highway. McPherson died at the scene, according to Smith.
Branigan is accused of leaving the scene of the crash, but then later turning himself in to police. Branigan was arrested, but has since posted bond, according to Smith.
