Winder man faces DUI, vehicular homicide charges after crash on Ga 211

A Winder man is facing DUI and other charges after a fatal traffic accident on Georgia 211 and Georgia 82 in Barrow County Monday afternoon.
 
According to an email statement from the Georgia State Patrol, a Dodge Caravan driven by by Keaton E. McKellop, 20, of Winder failed to maintain its lane while negotiating a curve and struck a Nissian Murano head-on.
 
McKellop was later charged with driving under the influence, homicide by vehicle in the first degree and failure to maintain lane.
 
Steven Donald Newman, 27, of Griffin was driving the Nissan. The State Patrol said he died at the scene.
 
McKellop was taken to a local hospital for treatment, and a passenger in his vehicle, Eric Randal Adams, 17, of Bethlehem was also transported for non-life threatening injuries.
 
The State Patrol said everyone involved in the wreck was properly restrained.
