GSP releases names of teens in wreck that claims 3, critically injures fourth

TOCCOA — The Georgia State Patrol has released more information about an overnight wreck near Martin, in Stephens County, that claimed the lives of three teens and critically injured a fourth.

The 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee involved was traveling north on Brookhaven Circle while trying to negotiate a right-hand curve, when it failed to maintain its lane and crossed the southbound lane, according to GSP Post 7 in Toccoa.

The vehicle, driven by 18-year-old Tristin Elizabeth Helton of Clarkesville, then traveled off the west shoulder of the roadway, striking numerous trees with its left front and top. 

Helton, who was restrained, and her 16-year-old front-seat passenger, Kennedy Ruthann Wright of Clarkesville, were both found deceased in the front seat of the vehicle, according to GSP Post 7 in Toccoa. Wright was not restrained.

Macklen-Jace Elijah Alexander, 17, of Martin, who was seated behind the passenger in the backseat, was ejected and found underneath the rear of the vehicle., according to GSP Post 7. 

Kainan Terrell Green of Toccoa, the other 17-year-old back-seat passenger who was seated behind the driver, was found partially ejected and hanging out of the back window in critical condition, according to GSP Post 7. He was transported by ambulance to Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

The wreck was reported at 12:15 a.m. on Brookhaven Circle near Lakeshore Circle.
