The ULTIMATE Super Late Model Series made a pair of Peach State appearances over the weekend, with Johnny Pursley and John Ownbey both scoring victories.
Pursley went to victory lane at Lavonia Speedway in Lavonia, Georgia on Friday night, while Ownbey took the win at Chatsworth, Georgia’s North Georgia Speedway on Saturday night.
Johnny Pursley led wire-to-wire to win Friday night’s feature at Lavonia Speedway.
The Clover, South Carolina driver started from the pole with a lap around the 3/8-mile clay raceway in 15.497 seconds. Pursley grabbed the lead at the drop of the green flag and took a .867 second margin of victory under the checkered flag over Toccoa, Georgia’s Casey Roberts in a race that saw only one caution flag.
Dennis Franklin finished in third, with current series points Tyler Millwood of in fourth and Brent Dixon in fifth.
Brett Hamm, Jeff Smith, Kenny Collins, Jason Welshan and Josh Thurman rounded out the top ten.
The only caution flag of the 40-lap race came out on lap 23 when Anthony Sanders stalled. The time of the race was 23 minutes and 2.635 seconds.
On Saturday night, John Ownbey held off Michael Page for the victory at North Georgia Speedway.
It marks the second career series win for the Cleveland, Tennessee driver, and was worth a $4,000 payday.
Page held on to finish in second, with Jason Welshan in third, Tyler Millwood in fourth and David Payne.
Ross Bailes, Kenny Collins, Gary McPherson, Heath Hindman and Colby Kilgore rounded out the top ten.
The next race for the ULTIMATE Super Late Model Series South East Region will be Saturday night, June 24 North Carolina’s Dublin Motor Speedway.
