Officials: Smithtown Road sidewalks should be finished by early July

The Smithtown Road sidewalk project in Suwanee should be wrapped up by early July, according to city officials.

City council was briefed on the project, which will bring sidewalks along an approximately one-mile stretch of the road, at its work session Thursday night, according to Marty Allen, city manager.

The $1.3 million contract for the work was approved in October, and will run from Suwanee Elementary School to Satellite Boulevard, which covers nearly the entirely length of Smithtown Road.

A feasibility study for the project was launched in April 2015. Allen said at the time that the sidewalks along Smithtown Road had been on the city's priority list for "a number of years."

Allen said the project could be done by early June, if everything stays on course.
