Franklin County wreck claims the life of Lavonia man on Ga. 106

A two-vehicle wreck on Ga. 106 in Franklin County claimed the life of a Lavonia man Sunday night, according to Georgia State Patrol Post 52 of Hartwell.

James Scott Bowers, 35, of Lavonia was driving a 2002 Pontiac Sunfire north on Ga. 106 at mile marker 3, when he failed to maintain lane, driving into the southbound lane of Ga. 106 and colliding with a 2005 Coachmen Sport Coach driven by Tommy Carl Alldredge, 67, of Hayden, Ala., according to GSP.

Alldredge steered toward the west side of the roadway in an attempt to avoid collision, but was unable to do so, according to GSP. Impact occurred in the southbound lane.

After the collision, the Pontiac rotated counter-clockwise, coming to rest facing south while blocking the northbound lane of Ga. 106, 0.6 miles south of its intersection with Ga. 51, according to GSP.

As the motorhome proceeded down an embankment, it overturned onto the passenger side, sliding to an uncontrolled rest, according to GSP.

Bowers died of injuries received in the wreck.

Alldredge was injured and was transported by Franklin County EMS to St. Mary’s Hospital, as were his passengers, 68-year-old Brenda Alldredge and 48-year-old Kelly Alldredge Russell, both of Hayden, Ala., according to GSP.
