UPDATE: Woman dies following Friday crash on Browns Bridge Road

By B.J. Williams

A 20-year-old Gainesville woman has died as the result of injuries she sustained in a traffic accident on Browns Bridge Road (GA 369) in Gainesville late Friday afternoon.

Cpl. Spencer Munger with the Georgia State Patrol said the accident happened around 5:45 p.m. at Memorial Park Drive.

Munger identified the victim as Cassandra Rivera Elizarraraz. He said she was driving a 1999 Ford Explorer eastbound on Browns Bridge Road in the inside left lane.

"While Vehicle #1 [the Ford Explorer] was negotiating a curve to the left, Vehicle #1 failed to maintain its proper lane and traveled into the westbound lanes of GA 369," Munger wrote in an email statement.

He said the Explorer struck a westbound 2006 Honda Accord being driven by Marvin Shane Pilcher, 30, of Cumming. At last report, Pilcher remained hospitalized in critical condition in ICU at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville.

"The front driver's side of Vehicle #1 struck the front driver's side of Vehicle #2 [the Honda Accord] in the westbound outside lane of GA 369. Vehicle #1 and Vehicle #2 to rotated counterclockwise," Munger said.

There was a third vehicle involved in the crash, as well, according to Munger. The 2015 GMC Acadia, driven by Deborah Joyce Howard, 61, of Flowery Branch, was traveling west on Browns Bridge Road in the outside right lane; Howard's vehicle was also struck by the Ford Explorer. There was no word on what injuries Howard might have suffered.
