Royston city officials announced details of the Ty Cobb statue unveiling ceremony on May 21 at the Royston Public Library.

The statue, which formerly resided at Turner Field, will be permanently placed in Cobb's hometown at 2 p.m.

“We are so honored to have this famous statue permanently placed on the original property of the Ty Cobb Memorial Baseball Shrine here in Ty Cobb’s hometown of Royston,” said Mayor David Jordan in a press release. “We are finalizing plans for a historic moment in Royston’s rich history with Ty Cobb!”

At the ceremony, Matt McRee Chief Financial Officer of Community Services Group, Inc., will serve as the master

A reception at the library will follow the unveiling, featuring the premier of a local documentary "Ty Cobb: Man from Myth" by Royston native Jack McRee.

The public is invited to attend the free event.

“We are encouraging all citizens from Royston and the rest of Franklin County to come out and be a part of this extraordinary event,” said Wesley Fricks, the Ty Cobb historian and member of the Ty Cobb Statue Committee, in the release. “This statue will be placed where it belongs – in Royston, home of baseball’s immortal Ty Cobb.”
