Buford commissioners deny request for landfill on McEver Road

Buford city commissioners voted Monday night to deny a developer's request to build a landfill along McEver Road in southern Hall County.

The landfill, which was to be an inert landfill for biodegradable materials, was denied unanimously, according to Kim Wolfe, city planning director.

The city's planning and zoning board previously recommended denial of the landfill, which would have occupied 14.4 acres near Blackberry Lane.

At issue, according to various media reports, was the landfill's proximity to Big Creek, which feeds Lake Lanier.

There is no word yet if the developer, Glenn Hamilton, will file an appeal.
