Winder Police rescue possibly suicidal man at Fort Yargo

A possibly suicidal man is recovering at an Athens area hospital after authorities rescued him at Fort Yargo State Park in Winder.

The man, 25, apparently left a suicide note for his family early Monday morning at their home in Barrow County, and contacted a friend, telling them where they would be able to locate his body within the park, according to a news release from the Winder Police Department.

The man's family contacted police around 4 a.m. at which point six different agencies launched a search, and found the man around 9 a.m. near the intersection of Carson Wages Road and Ga. 81.

Winder Police found him "within minutes" of getting the department's drone airborne, after police K-9 units were unable to locate him.

The man was alert and conscious as medical personnel arrived on scene. He was suffering from an apparent self-inflicted knife wound in his abdomen.
