CLARKESVILLE – A Habersham County woman was hurt when her vehicle left the road and landed beside a creek in Clarkesville Friday afternoon.
Jessica Craven’s 2008 grey Chevrolet Equinox was traveling south on Ga. 385 (Grant Street) when it came over a hill, failed to maintain lane, crossed the double yellow centerlines, went off the roadway on the east shoulder and struck a Georgia Power Co. pole before traveling through the yard of the Mountain Judicial Circuit Public Defender’s Office and traveling into a roadside culvert, said Trooper 1st Class John Crawford of Georgia State Patrol Post 7 in Toccoa.
Craven, 22, was injured and had to be removed from the vehicle, then from the ravine by emergency personnel using a ropes system. She was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center for treatment of what are said to be non-life-threatening injuries.
Initial reports were that the vehicle was on fire with the driver still inside, but that turned out not to be the case.
Clarkesville Fire and Habersham Emergency Medical Services personnel were assisted by those from Demorest Fire Department and Habersham County Fire in retrieving Craven from the ravine.
Craven was cited for no seatbelt and failure to maintain lane, Crawford said.
The wreck shut down Ga. 385 at Ga. 197 for about an hour.
