As the first Thursday in May approaches, local churches and faith groups are planning to participate in the 65th National Day of Prayer.
The observance was created in 1952 by a joint resolution of the United States Congress, and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman. All gatherings associated with the National Day of Prayer are privately funded, according to the Task Force website.
The theme for the 2017 National Day of Prayer on May 4 is adapted from Daniel 9:19 - For Your Great Name's Sake! Hear Us ...Forgive Us ...Heal Us!
In North Georgia, two Prayer on the Square events are scheduled - one in Gainesville at noon and the other in Lawrenceville at 6:45 p.m. Both observances will follow the same format with seven prayer stations set up for visitors to join in prayer for seven areas of concern.
In Dahlonega, residents are invited for a prayer observance at Hancock Park from 12:30 -1:30 p.m.
Other National Day of Prayer events include:
- Gainesville Prayer Breakfast at 6:45 a.m. at the Gainesville Civic Center
- Community Prayer Observance at Jug Tavern Park in Winder at 12 p.m.
- Prayer Service at First Baptist Church of Cumming at 12 p.m.
- Prayer Service at First Presbyterian Church of Cornelia at 6:30 p.m.
- Prayer Observance at All Green Outdoor Center in Dawsonville at 7 p.m.
