UPDATE: Remains found in Lumpkin County belong to missing Buford woman

Human remains found Thursday in a wooded area in Dahlonega belong to a Buford woman who went missing in October 2016, the GBI confirmed Friday afternoon.

Tosha Herron went missing in the area, and her car was located within days of her disappearance in the Chestatee Wildlife Management Area off of U.S. 129.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation said in a release that the agency, along with Lumpkin County Sheriff's Office and Gwinnett County Sheriff's Office Rapid Response Team, searched the area Thursday and expanded its borders

GBI Spokeswoman Nelly Miles said crews also located a boot that was a match to one of Herron's boots found shortly after the accident.

Herron was last seen by her parents at their Buford home on October 7, 2016.

Authorities have not released any details regard Herron's cause of death.
