Rabun County public safety official arrested after Stephens County crash

TOCCOA – A Rabun County official was arrested after a single-vehicle wreck on Ga. 145 near Eastanollee Saturday afternoon.

Gregg Todd Dover, 49, of Clayton, who serves as assistant director of Rabun County’s 9-1-1 center, was arrested at the scene after his blue 2003 Chevrolet Avalanche pickup truck left the roadway while negotiating a curve on Ga. 145 in Stephens County Saturday afternoon, according to Cpl. D. Van Scoten of Georgia State Patrol Post 7 in Toccoa.

“[Dover’s truck] left the roadway while negotiating a left-hand curve on the right shoulder,” Van Scoten said. “[Dover] corrected then steered Vehicle 1 across the double yellow center lines and off the left-hand shoulder into the wood line. Vehicle 1 struck several trees and came to rest in the wood line.”

Dover, who was not injured, was taken into custody. A young child in the vehicle was not hurt.

Dover is charged with driving under the influence, DUI child endangerment and failure to maintain lane.

Witnesses were behind Dover’s truck at the time of the wreck, according to Van Scoten.

After meeting with Dover Monday morning, Rabun County Administrator Darrin Giles made the following statement:

“We are aware that a situation occurred to one of our employees while he was off-duty and on his personal time that this accident occurred,” Giles said. “He has actually been suspended from driving or operating any county vehicle while we investigate and see what’s going on. That’s basically our response.”

Dover will remain on the job pending the outcome of the investigation, Giles said, who added Dover has been a model employee for Rabun County, always showing up, being punctual and doing his job.
