Former East Hall standout Davenport commits to play for Memphis

By AccessWDUN Staff

Kyvon Davenport's journey to the collegiate big-time is complete.

The former East Hall basketball standout announced via social media that he has committed to play for Memphis and coach Tubby Smith.

The 2015 Vikings graduate made the jump to Memphis after two stellar seasons with Georgia Highlands College in Cartersville, including this past campaign, which saw him named the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association player of the year after averaging 16.5 points, 10.6 rebounds and nearly three blocks per game.

“I want to thank my family for supporting me so much throughout the whole time and even helping me make my decision,” Davenport tweeted. “I want to thank my juco coaches and high school coaches for pushing me and making me better throughout the whole process. Thank you coach Esposito for putting in the hard work recruiting me. With that being said, I will continue my basketball career at University of Memphis!”

The 6-foot-8 Davenport will have two years of eligibility for the Tigers and is expected to compete for immediate playing time after the departures of three contributors from last season's squad.
