Sunday afternoon fire damages home in Barrow County

By AccessWDUN Staff

Barrow County firefighters spent part of their Sunday afternoon battling a residential fire on Apalachee Ridge Road in Auburn.

Fire Capt. Scott Dakin said crews were called to scene just before 1 p.m.

"Firefighters were dispatched to the incident and found heavy smoke coming from the rear of the home," Dakin said. “Firefighters from Stations 4, 5 and 7 responded to this call and worked hard to bring the fire under control."

Dakin said firefighters found heavy fire conditions in the middle of the home, and there were several windows that had broken due to heat conditions.

"They [firefighters] then made entry in to the home and knocked the fire completely out. The home sustained heavy damage in the middle two rooms from the fire. The remainder of the home was damaged by smoke conditions," Dakin said.

One adult was displaced as a result of the fire. That person was not home at the time.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
