Peppers, Tomlinson power No. 5 UNG to sweep of Young Harris

By AccessWDUN

YOUNG HARRIS — Senior Dylan Peppers struck out a career high 11 batters on Sunday as the fifth-ranked North Georgia baseball team shutout Young Harris, 10-0, at Zell Miller Field. The Nighthawks advance to 29-7 on the year with the win and maintain their two-game lead in the Peach Belt Conference standings at 14-4.

North Georgia started the scoring party in the second, plating a pair of runs including the first of four run-producing hits by Steven Tomlinson. The Nighthawk centerfielder would knock in another run in the third with an RBI double down the left field line to give UNG a 3-0 lead.

After three scoreless innings Tomlinson picked up another RBI with a single up the middle that would spark a rally that carried over to the eighth when UNG put up a five spot to extend their lead to 9-0, that also included an infield RBI single by Tomlinson.

Michael Bell would add the 10th and final run of the game in the top of the ninth with a solo homer to left.

NOTES
- Steven Tomlinson led the Nighthawk effort at the plate with his 5-for-5 performance. The five hits tie the UNG record for hits in a game. Tomlinson is the 13-th Nighthawk to pick up five hits in a game and the first since Derek Hopper on April 7, 2013, which was also at Young Harris.

- Dylan Peppers (4-2) earned the win on the mound allowing just three hits in his eight innings of work. Peppers struck out 11 while allowing just two walks.

- North Georgia improves to 11-4 all-time against Young Harris and owns an impressive 7-2 mark at Zell Miller Field.
