Open house planned in Forsyth County for proposed McGinnis Ferry Road interchange project

Officials with the Georgia Department of Transportation and Forsyth County Engineering Department want to hear from the public Tuesday on the proposed McGinnis Ferry Road interchange project on Ga. 400.

The plans call for a full-diamond interchange on 400 at McGinnis Ferry.

"The project would add a northbound and southbound auxiliary lane on SR 400 between the Windward Parkway ramps and the new McGinnis Ferry Road ramps and between the McGinnis Ferry Road ramps and the McFarland Parkway ramps," officials said in a news release from Forsyth County.

The work would also widen southbound 400 by one lane from about 2,000 feet south of the southbound McFarland Parkway exit ramp to to 3,500 feet north of the southbound McFarland Parkway off ramp.

"The project would replace the existing bridge over SR 400 and widen McGinnis Ferry Road from Bethany Bend through the intersection of Union Hill Road onto Ronald Reagan Boulevard to Counselors Way," the release stated.

Officials said the new bridge would be designed to cover future managed lanes on 400.

The project, nearly five miles in total, will incorporate a 10-foot wide multi-use path, according to plans.

The work would increase the right-of-way on McGinnis Ferry Road from roughly 40 to 70 feet.  Officials don't think the project will require more right-of-way on 400.

Tuesday's drop in style open house will be held at the Fowler Park Recreation Center from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
