No. 5 Georgia Gwinnett sweeps Truett softball

By AccessWDUN

LAWRENCEVILLE — The Truett McConnell softball team went to battle at No. 5 Georgia Gwinnett and found themselves on the wrong side of both sides of the doubleheader despite battling to the very end of both games. The Bears lost 8-0 in game one while falling 3-2 in game two.

The Grizzlies jumped out early on the Bears in game one, putting two runs up in the first and four in the second. The Bears would get runners on base, but the Grizzlies didn't let a runner pass second base en route to the 8-0 win.

The Bears put up runs in the second game, scoring both runs in the final frame of the game with one out left. After Kaitlynn Hay and Olivia Darley reached base by walk, Milly Martinet blasted a single to right field that allowed the speedy Hay and Darley to race home and cut the lead to one at 3-2. TMU loaded up the bases and had a chance to tie or take the lead, but GGC was able to escape with the win.

The Bears will jump back into AAC play on Saturday as they take on Columbia on Senior Day. First pitch of the doubleheader is at 2 p.m.
