DAHLONEGA — The fifth-ranked University of North Georgia baseball team cruised past Southern Wesleyan, 11-5, in a rare midday midweek game at Bob Stein Stadium Wednesday. The Nighthawks improve to 23-6 on the season with the victory.

The Warriors took an early lead in the top of the first with an RBI double to left by Julio Justo but the Nighthawks would answer in the home half of the first with an RBI single through the left side by Trevor Sams.

Conner Corbitt put UNG in front in the bottom of the second with his solo homer to left center giving UNG a 2-1 lead. SWU would get the run back in the next frame though as Justo drove in another run with a RBI single to center.

North Georgia took the lead for good in the bottom of the third with three RBI singles from Bill Leroy, Corbitt, and Steven Tomlinson to put the Nighthawks ahead, 5-2. UNG would add four runs over the next two innings, including a Trevor Sams two-run bomb to left center, extending their lead to 9-2.

UNG added some insurance in the seventh with another pair of runs to go up 11-2. Southern Wesleyan rallied in the top of the ninth taking advantage of four free passes, scoring three runs before the Nighthawks were able to get the final out of the game.

NOTES
- Steven Tomlinson and Conner Corbitt led the North Georgia effort at the plate with three hits each. Corbitt's home run in the second was his fifth of the season.

- Chris Cobb (1-0) was credited with the win pitching the most effectively out of UNG's seven pitchers on the day. Cobb pitched two innings of perfect baseball picking up two strikeouts along the way.

- Blake Gaubert made his first appearance of the season coming off of injury. Gaubert went two innings allowing just one hit and facing the minimum of six batters.

- UNG completes the season sweep of Southern Wesleyan with the win after taking down the Warriors, 14-1, earlier this year. North Georgia owns a 28-2 all-time advantage over SWU.
